We are always encouraging new people to get into the wonderful sport of climbing! However, we realize that first-time experiences outdoors can vary widely based on who you know to take you outside and teach you proper techniques. Many areas have limited or cost-prohibitive gym-to-crag
Further, even when experienced climbers take a new climber outside, there are so many new terms and complicated descriptions of gear, there is a need to have quick diagrams showcasing the different types of climbing so an experienced climber can use them for explaining. Referral back to the images over time reinforces what was taught.
Overall, we saw a need, not only to reduce barriers to climbing outdoors, but to promote safe climbing with a quick, portable, booklet to be used as a starting point for learning about outdoor climbing and providing a list of resources for further learning and training.
The Ladies Climbing Coalition, in conjunction with the Southeast Climbers Coalition and Climbers for Christ, created a Gym to Crag booklet.
