Ambassador Profile – Shilpa Khatri
Shilpa Khatri is our California ambassador who lives in Merced, CA., located just a couple hours from Yosemite National Park.
When Shilpa isn’t teaching math to college students or travelling for work she likes to host a weekly boulder session at her house. That’s right…she has a bouldering wall at her house! Bouldering isn’t all Shilpa has submerged herself in as far as climbing goes. She’s also seasoned in sport and trad climbing. She’s been doing some form of climbing for over 10 years which has had a life changing impact on her since starting. She credits climbing with showing her how to approach things, mentally, in a different way. It’s given her confidence and opened doors for her socially and exposed her to more of what the outdoors has to offer.
Shilpa already runs a women’s meeting at her local gym and found it is harder for women to get into outdoor climbing than it is for men. She found out about the Ladies Climbing Coalition while in New Orleans when she met one of the co-founders. She applied to be an ambassador because the Ladies Climbing Coalition created a larger platform for her to help get women together and get them outside and climbing. Shilpa’s personal climbing goal is to teach a climbing partner how to lead a trad route.
Getting the opportunity to meet and chat with Shilpa was comforting in the fact that we both face similar fears, have similar goals and share the desire to share this amazing sport with other women. I was inspired and humbled by what she has accomplished thus far and I’m excited she is a part of our LCC community!
